Speak!

I'm currently reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson for my Young Adult Literature class. I love this book. It's honest. And as I sat on the couch last night reading this book I saw out of the corner of my eye an ad for Speak the movie coming up next on Lifetime. So, I wondered if it was based on the book. Well,I typed it into imdb.com and discovered not only was it based on the book but Laurie Halse Anderson was one of the writers of the movie as well. Usually, when the writer is involved in the production of the book to the movie they hold true to the book, and this was the case. The actors said actual lines of dialogue from the book. The movie stars the lovely Kristen Stewart as Melinda, Elizabeth Perkins as her mother, and Steve Zahn as her art teacher. It was a great cast, great movie, and great book. I'll post a full review once I have finished it.
So, ad this to your Netflix...it is super great!

In a long absence...

I have working quite diligently on a new project that I am hoping to debut soon. I have also been reading, I have been reading a lot. Sadly, mostly for school but I am taking Young Adult Literature so I have been reading some interesting novels that I probably would not have picked up on my own. I just finished Liar's Club by Mary Karr, Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons, and Maus by Art Speigelman. I am trying to finish up The Raging Quiet by Sheryl Joradan, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and The Relam of Possibilities by David Levithan. So I will have some wonderful mini reviews to share soon.
I haven't been to raid the thrift stores lately, which my husband is very happy about. We have run out of room on all our book shelves. But I did pick up another copy of The Heart is a Lonely Hunter last week for a dime.

First Love Never Dies...especially if he's fiction.

This sweet cardigan reminded me of an lovely English spring and how I first fell in love with a fictional man, Mr. Darcy. Oh Jane Austen, How I love thee! I read Pride and Prejudice at least once a year, it is my Top 5 Favorite Books of All Time. Mr. Darcy was my ideal, but I quickly discovered that high school boys lack a sense of honor and moral obligation. That's okay, I found my Darcy later in life.
Currently, I am taking a Young Adult Literature course and I need to think of some YA novels to pair with the classic book assigned to me, Wuthering Heights... another fav. So if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
